Relax. You’re 1/3 of a Social Media Expert!
You do what you do, and you do it well. You’ve been around, have something to say, and know the ins and outs of what you’re selling. You have a pretty good handle on what makes your customers tick.
But is Social Media Marketing still a bit of a nebulous concept?
Relax. You’re already at least 1/3 of the way there toward implementing an effective Social Media Marketing Plan that builds relationships, drives traffic to your web site, enhances your brand and generates leads.
Really? Yes. Having some relevant insight (see above) and a willingness to engage is a start. A must, actually.
Social Media Marketing is about conversation. A relevant, targeted, responsive, enlightening and continuous conversation that builds a relationship. What’s required beyond the knowledge (or “content”) you already possess, is a plan to consistently reach out, analyze and react within the conversation you have entered or started. It’s how you grow relationships, and ultimately how you succeed at growing your business.
And this is where the other 2/3 of the equation comes into play:
Like any good offline conversation, listening is key. So next up is to take time to understand what is being discussed (and where) and how you may contribute before chiming in. Consider using FREE or paid listening tools like Radian6 to help properly position your conversations to grow relationships.
Now get out there and express yourself and engage with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs and relevant community groups & forums. Be sure to also invest time and resources in tracking and reacting to what’s being said directly to you, about you, or other topics of interest. Google Analytics is a good FREE resource, but other subscription-based analytics services like Hubspot may offer more user-friendly (and robust) solutions suitable for the newbie.
